Based on my experience with a 3GS

First things first. The Apple TV works with ease. Connect to the phone, connect to the TV. Apps auto recognize that you are connected to the tv & off you go. No complaints here.

Now, what I didn't recognize (& this is my fault for not researching further) but for fundamentally anything pre-iphone four, the TV video out is only supported for 1st party apps. So, Ipod, Youtube, & videos taken from your phone will play nicely. Others, such as Netflix (which was my main interest) DO NOT SUPPORT TV-video out. Apparently this functionality is only obtainable with the newer model iphones & touches.

So, in the event you don't have the latest & greatest be advised. Otherwise, the cable itself works great.
