Connect to the phone, connect to the TV. Apps auto recognize that you are connected to the tv & off you go. No complaints here. Now, what I didn't recognize (& this is my fault for not researching further) but for fundamentally anything pre-iphone four, the TV video out is only supported for 1st party apps. So, Ipod, Youtube, & videos taken from your phone will play nicely. Others, such as Netflix (which was my main interest) DO NOT SUPPORT TV-video out. Apparently this functionality is only obtainable with the newer model iphones & touches. So, in the event you don't have the latest & greatest be advised. Otherwise, the cable itself works great. And naturally the power cord needs no explanation. * Compatibility: I have a black MacBook and early 2008 iMac both jogging Snow Leopard and iTunes 9.0.1. There's been no compatibility issues between ATV v2.4 and the new OS/software updates. In terms of video format compatibility, I don't have any complaints except Apple TV won't play .avi/divx files out of the box unless the user converts the video formats or installs program hacks to the Apple TV. Personally, i do not perceive the reasoning why they created a Play/Pause button break free the middle button, since they each do constant issue (then once more i do not use Apple TV for displays, thus i can not say that it's entirely useless).
